On April 20-22, 2008 the next fifth international conference PetroСem-2008 was held. Since 2000, the conference has become the largest and most effective forum of cement workers in the post-Soviet space, has acquired its traditions and its regular participants, the circle of which is expanding each time. PetroСem 2000 gathered 170 people from 21 countries of the world, and PetroСem 2008 already has more than 470 out of 34 countries, representing 258 companies and organizations.

The conference was attended by representatives of most cement plants in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, cement producers from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Spain, Cyprus, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Portugal, France, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Switzerland. The Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of St. Petersburg, the Association of Cement Makers, the largest Russian and international cement holdings were represented. Among the participants were representatives of banks and foundations investing in the cement industry and the construction of new cement plants, cement consumers, trading companies, many manufacturers of cement equipment and suppliers of services and materials. Such a composition of participants against the background of investment processes in the cement industry provided a wide range for fruitful contacts.

The conference program included 56 messages on a variety of topics. A large group of reports was devoted to the situation in the cement industry of the world, Russia and its neighbors, as well as investment opportunities. The subjects of communications of equipment and materials suppliers covered the current state of almost all stages of cement production and ways to achieve resource saving, environmental protection, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction.

Of great interest was the extensive exhibition with more than 50 participants, where one could get acquainted with product samples, get expert advice, and discuss the details of cooperation. The exhibition provided an additional opportunity for close communication and solving specific issues.

By tradition, the conference was held in the famous Astoria Hotel, and ended with a gala dinner in the magnificent marble hall of one of the most beautiful Petersburg palaces, which was accompanied by a concert with the participation of outstanding artists.
